You may think that you could clean a granite countertop with just any household cleaning chemical, but it is far from the truth.
Firstly, you should never use general kitchen and bathroom cleaners that may contain acidic properties. The acidic substance will have a negative reaction with the granite surface and cause it to lose its coating. Never leave lime, lemon or vinegar when it spills on a granite countertop.
Secondly, don’t use bleach on your granite countertop. Bleach is a very popular cleaning chemical in homes as it is known to loosen stains and dirt. However, on a granite counter top the bleach will loosen not only the stain or dirt but also its protective coating. Thereafter any stains will be more prominent on your countertop.
Thirdly, Don’t use abrasive cleaning chemicals on your granite countertop. The small particle inside these cleaning chemicals will leave small scratches on your granite causing it to loose its shine.
You should always use a damp cloth or soap based cleaner when cleaning a granite countertop. Never leave any substance to dry on your granite countertop. Remember you have spent good money for your granite countertop. You should, therefore, put in some extra effort to maintain it so it will last long and look great.
